Would/could you use feminized seeds as your mother?? Common sense would say yes but would the cuttings grow into hermaphrodites? (Unstable with seeds.) I've read about the chromosomes having a pair of single version genes called an 'allele.' If a feminized seed is used as a mother, will any of the offspring from a feminized seed promote hermaphroditism? As you said, seeds are expensive (regular or feminized) + the time & effort to keep the mother strong and productive. Basically, is it worth trying to raise a mother from female seed?
