    Hydrogen Peroxide Germination: Day 5

    Day 5 score 10-10.

On day 5, the plain water seeds caught up to the hydrogen peroxide seeds for a total of 10 out of 10. 100% germination both sides.

As the treated seeds did seem to tend to sprout first, I’m putting a follow up test on the Grubbyschedule with a note to use tougher seeds. Like maybe the silly catnip seeds if I don’t see some action from them in the next week or so.

Thanks again to Grubbyblog reader Jungle Jim for the idea!

radish-seed-hp-day5 Germination aside, the radishes are not quite done telling their story. This is the hydrogen peroxide group.

Oh, and if some of you are thinking: “Grubbycup, isn’t perlite supposed to be white?”

To that I say: “Naw, NEW perlite is supposed to be white. Seasoned perlite is kinda light-greenish, light-brown, off-white.”

One of the things I like about a perlite-clay mix is that I can feel like I get my money’s worth out of it. You can reclaim a fair amount of it at harvest, and if you throw the rooty chunks into the compost pile, the rest can wind up in your outdoor garden.

radish-seeds-day5 If you look closely, you may be still be able to see the (now less pronounced) difference in quality between the treated seed sprouts above, and the plain seed sprouts to the left. At this point I don’t think that there will be much difference in the final product, but I’ve been wrong before, so I’ll check back with them now and then to find out for sure.Peace, love, and puka shells,
