In 1986 I was unable to work due to severe exposure to aspartame at Pepsi. I was diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome, then unacknowledged as an illness by social security and not supported by long term disability at Pepsi. To this day I have chronic issues with hives and increasingly more allergies. I recently discovered that the claritin I took was available in orally disintegrating pills. thinking this was more convenient I used them and ended up with hives so severe and unending I was nearly incapacitated. I recently found out that these pills contain...aspartame...to which I am severely allergicn and for which i was taking the pills. I finally, after 3 weeks realized that perhaps it was the "new" claritin I was taking that was causing my problems. When I first became ill I read the studies on aspartame and found that it metabolizes into methanol and glutamate...and the body reacts as if it is poisoned by methanol and stores extra glutamate int he kidneys and hypothalmus. This explains why it took nearly another 2 weeks for my body to recover from the hives. My body stored the chemicals and had to expell them later. avoid nutrasweet and asparatame at all costs. The FDA knew about these issues when it approved it. If I knew who to sue to recover lost wages and expenses for health care I would do it. I'm lucky to be alive much less able to earn a living.

Thank you for this article...I just wished more citizens were aware about what they consume on a daily basis of this horrible chemical. But, with all the lies that Americans been told for decades on Aspertame,it actually has made alot of people take off the "blinders" and realize this chemical is a "ticking bomb" and just more profit for the Nutrasweet company. If everyone was to and take an inventory of their pantries right now, & really read all those ingredient labels, it would scare most out of their minds and should want to BOYCOTT all the major food companies that
fill their products with nothing but refined carbs, overprocessed junk additives and no nutrients, oh and the biggest one ..GM food crops that dominate the local convenience stores...make sure to share this list with all friends and family ...http://nongmoshoppingguide.com/ and also the latest updated 2011 guide http://truefoodnow.org/shoppers-guide/
SHARE THE KNOWLEDGE and unveil the truth about taking back our health freedom!

Hat's Off to a great article. The truth about aspartame has been known since the late 1960s, and thanks to the Internet, the "buzz" about its dangers is becoming more widespread now. Sadly, the consumer remains at the short end of this stick because the AMA and the mainstream media channels still refuse to acknowledge the research proving aspartame's health dangers.

But, with articles such as this, the truth will surely prevail. One day - some day - the consumers will see justice.
